South African National Parks (SANParks) is warning members of the public against BASE jumping and wingsuit activities on Table Mountain, following several videos circulating on social media in recent days showing people jumping from the mountain.

SANParks says the activity is illegal, unregulated and strictly prohibited within Table Mountain National Park.

The warning follows a fatal incident earlier this year when a BASE jumper died after falling in the Platteklip Gorge section of the park on Monday, 5 January 2026.

SANParks says Table Mountain National Park is a protected area under the National Environmental Management: Protected Areas Act and forms part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The organisation says activities that pose risks to human life, and the environment are not permitted in the park.

SANParks has appealed to visitors not to participate in BASE jumping or similar activities.

The organisation also urged members of the public to report suspected illegal activities in the park.
