SAA to fly reduced schedule as pilots embark on strike

Published on

Following the deadlock of wage negotiations between South African Airways (SAA) and the SAA Pilots Association (SAAPA), the pilots affiliated to SAAPA and associated union, the National Transport Movement, will embark on a strike commencing today, 5 December 2024.

As a result of this industrial action by SAAPA, SAA management has been compelled to implement contingency measures to ensure business continuity and accommodate passengers through a limited flight schedule and re-accommodating on other carriers.

The specific details of the limited flight schedule and re-accommodation plans have been communicated to the travel agents and to passengers who have booked directly with SAA either through the Call Centre, GSA, City and Airport Ticketing Offices, flysaa.com and SAA mobile applications.

We have also published a Q&A on flysaa.com.

Interim Chief Executive Officer Professor John Lamola stated, “This situation is regrettable, and we acknowledge the trust our customers place in us for their travel needs. We are committed to ensuring that all passengers reach their destinations, despite the challenges posed by a limited schedule and necessary re-accommodations on other airlines.”
