The NICD added (that) health care workers are being educated on monkeypox, in the event, cases are picked up in South Africa. The current multi-national outbreak of monkeypox is the first to involve cases simultaneously reported from various non-endemic countries. The current outbreak is being driven by the West African lineage of the virus, which is less severe than the Central African lineage.

Meanwhile: The National Institute for Communicable Diseases has confirmed that the country has now passed the peak of the 5th wave of Covid-19, which they’ve described as more of a resurgence, than a proper wave. There has been a sustained reduction in the number of new cases over the past 2 weeks, and hospitalisations have also come down. The NICD’s Prof Cheryl Cohen says the latest resurgence was much lower than what was seen in previous waves.
