Residents advised of road closures and MyCiTi interruptions

Published on

Cape Town residents and motorists are in for a busy weekend in the Mother City with both the Cape Town Carnival 2026 event and the United Rugby Championship (URC) home game taking place.

On Saturday, the City of Cape Town’s head of Safety and Security, JP Smith, have reminded motorists and MyCiTi users of road closures that will be put in place in the Green Point precinct for the Cape Town Carnival. MyCiTi users will also experience routes being impacted and deviated.

Somerset Road will be closed from 12:00 until 02:00 on the day of the event. This will impact all traffic movement from the side streets on Somerset Road. Green Point Main Road from P14 will be closed from 14:00.

Roads impacted and MyCiTi shuttles for Stormers vs Dragons

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the DHL Stormers are taking on Welsh outfit Dragons RFC at the DHL Stadium for the team’s first United Rugby Championship (URC) home game since January.

Around 20 000 spectators are expected to attend the game at DHL Stadium. The URC game will be followed by a curtain dropper match between a Stormers XV taking on the Seattle Seawolves.

The City have advised residents and motorists that Fritz Sonnenberg Road, Stephan Way, Vlei Road and Granger Bay Boulevard will be impacted from 06:00 until after the game.

For those attending the game, the City has confirmed that free MyCiTi shuttle service will be transporting spectators to the stadium from the Civic Centre, Thibault Square and the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). This service is only available to ticket holders.

The shuttle service will start operating from 12:30 from the Civic Centre, Thibault Square and the CTICC. The last bus will depart the stadium and the Green Point Precinct at 19:30.

At the CTICC, the shuttle will operate from the City Sightseeing bus stop near Entrance 3 on Walter Sisulu Avenue.
