In just one week, Cape Town will host the first Earthshot Prize awards on African soil, welcoming Prince William of Wales alongside global innovators and environmental leaders.
Earthshot Week, starting on Monday, will highlight transformative environmental solutions, with a full schedule of events culminating in the prestigious awards ceremony next Thursday.
Cape Town mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis says the Mother City is all set for the historic occasion. The city’s initiatives on alternative water sources, green energy transitions, and advanced wastewater technology make it an appropriate location for Hill-Lewis to hold the week, who believes these key plans fit the occasion.
“Our city feels a great resonance with Earthshot’s objectives. Cape Town is making an SA-record R120bn infrastructure investment over ten years, with a full 40% of our project portfolio focusing on climate change interventions.”
On Wednesday, the “Green Carpet” will rolled out for the prestigious award ceremony. Earthshot Week co-host, Nomzamo Mbatha, will hand over the reigns to industry colleague, Bonang Matheba, to close the day.
Matheba joins forces with acclaimed American actor, Billy Porter, to introduce a star-studded lineup. The lineup includes African talents such as Davido, Diamond Platnumz, Lebo M, the Ndlovu Youth Choir, and DJ sensation Uncle Waffles.
