His visit will offer support to affected communities and assess the response of government and civil society to the critical situation. In a statement released by the KZN Provincial Government, an assessment by the Provincial Cabinet indicates that many people have lost their lives, with Ethekwini alone reporting 45 deaths so far. Ramaphosa will visit areas that have been severely impacted by the floods.

Meanwhile, Transnet has implemented precautionary measures at its facilities in that province. Heavy rains have damaged the road infrastructure leading into the Port of Durban, affecting access into the terminals. Transnet spoke-s-person, Ayanda Shezi says as a precautionary measure and for safety reasons, operations at the Durban Terminals have been suspended.
