President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to deliver the 2022 State of the Nation Address on the back of security concerns, rampant corruption and fraud, rising unemployment and a strained fiscus.

Security concerns have been exacerbated by a fire that gutted large sections of Parliament, earlier this year. Also of concern is the findings contained in a report of a panel of experts appointed to probe the reasons behind the July 2021 unrest that found that factional battles within the ANC have become a serious source of instability. The state capture inquiry report and the SIU probe into the government’s R14.3bn Covid-19 spending have also raised questions on the un-checked raise in the levels of corruption and fraud in the public sector. His speech will start at 7 o’clock.
