Prepare yourself for a drier winter. That’s the word from the South African Weather Service.

Looking at forecasting tools, it would seem that winter will not be seeing as much rain, as it did last year.

A senior forecaster at the Cape Town Office of the South African Weather Service, Elani Heyneke says the first part of the winter season, could also be different to the second part of the season. This means, there could be more cold fronts, later in the season.

“It doesn’t necessarily mean, we will not get cold fronts, bringing your rain and showers, that we need. As we can see in the past week or so, we already had a couple of cold fronts moving through, so it’s not impossible. It’s just, it might not be that frequent or intense as we would like it to be,” says Heyneke.
Heyneke added that as they move into the middle of the season, they’ll have a better idea of what to expect.
According to SAWS, winter started on the first day of June, until the end of August.
