The City of Cape Town is once again set to kick off the festive holiday season and welcome summer in spectacular fashion. Its yearly entertainment concert at the Grand Parade on the CBD, known as the Festive Lights Switch-On, will take place on the 1st of December 2024.
“This iconic event, now in its 55th year, unites people of all cultures, backgrounds and ages from across the city and beyond”
According to the City, the theme for this year’s event will aim to showcase the city’s sense of community and is titled, “Cape Town: People of Hope.”
Reflecting Cape Town’s forward-looking ethos and embracing its rich diversity, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says this year’s festival promises an unforgettable experience filled with laughter, music, and entertainment.
“It is the perfect environment for families, friends, locals, and international visitors to come together in the heart of one of the world’s top destinations.”
“I remember attending this concert as a little boy, and it’s one of my fondest childhood memories. Above all, this is a wonderful family event for the whole of Cape Town. It’s more than just a celebration of the festive season; it is a celebration of Cape Town’s people – the People of Hope.” added Hill-Lewis

This is however not the only line-up of artists as entertainers and fine comedians will also join the stage including 3 Tons of Fun to Wynand and Cheree Strydom, Blackbyrd, and the Old Gentleman Dancers.
“Pan favourites DJ Caycee, Carletheia, Ouma Sarie, and Meneer Cee will bring an infectious energy to the Grand Parade stage.”
This year’s festivities will be led by local comedians Alan Committie and Lunga Tshuka who will be the hosts of the evening. Adding to the fun and the laughter, the top three finalists from the City of Cape Town’s new comedy competition will also bring their best routines and fresh comedic talent.
