Premier Alan Winde announces changes to his Provincial Cabinet

Published on

Premier Alan Winde has announced several changes to his Provincial Cabinet.

Two vacancies had to be filled due to the resignation of Albert Fritz, who left under a cloud of sexual misconduct allegations, and the resignation of Debbie Schafer, who is moving to the UK to pursue another career.

He has also repurposed two portfolios, after announcing in his State of The Province address that he would establish a Department of Infrastructure and a Department of Mobility.

Winde says he is excited by these changes, and believes it will create the momentum needed to improve the lives of citizens.

The changes are as follows:

  • Tertuis Simmers is appointed Provincial MEC of Infrastructure (previously known as the Department of Human Settlements)
  • Daylin Mitchell is appointed Provincial MEC of Mobility (previously the Department of Transport and Public Works)
  • David Maynier will be appointed Provincial MEC of Education from 15 May
  • Mireille Wenger will be appointed Provincial MEC of Finance and Economic Opportunities from 15 May
  • Reagan Allen is appointed Provincial Minister of Community Safety and Police Oversight

Winde says with the new changes to his Provincial Cabinet, the Western Cape government can be more responsive to the needs of citizens.
