Published on

Western Cape police have launched a manhunt for suspects who shot and killed a police sergeant in Vrygrond on Friday morning.

The body of the 48-year-old officer was discovered outside his home in Thys Witbooi Street at around 5 AM.

He was in uniform and about to leave for work at the Wynberg station.

Provincial police commissioner Thembisile Patekile has expressed his outrage, saying they will spare no resources to find the killers.

“An attack on any member of the South African Police Service will be met with the full force of the law. We will not rest until justice is served.”

His family members, who were inside the residence, were unharmed.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) has been assigned to lead the investigation.

Anyone with information that could assist in this case is urged to contact Crime Stop anonymously at 08600 10111.
