More abalone was seized by Cape Town police…this time in the Parklands area.
On Monday, officers attached to Operation Restore carried out a raid at a house in Parklands, which led to the confiscation of a large quantity of abalone. Detectives followed up on a tip-off regarding suspicious activities at the premises in Carlton Crescent. Police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi said that after conducting a search and seizure operation, officers found 1 824 units of abalone worth an estimated street value of R700 000.
“Three males between the ages of 23 and 45 were detained for the possession of abalone without a valid permit. Once charged the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Cape Town Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charge,” said Swartbooi.

Operation Restore, a specialized initiative deployed in the Western Cape to combat various forms of crime, continues to target the illegal trade in marine resources, which has far-reaching environmental and economic consequences. Police have reiterated their commitment to disrupting these criminal activities, ensuring the protection of marine life, and preventing further harm to the economy.
The latest incident follows a number of perlemoen busts in the Cape, over the last two months. Since September, Western Cape Police have confiscated abalone amounting to millions of rands.
