Cape Town police detectives have initiated a manhunt for the four suspects who fatally shot three males and attempted to kill five others in Sheffield Road Browns Farm, Nyanga on Wednesday.
Initial police investigations have revealed that four armed men approached the eight victims, aged between 18 and 21, at around 13:15 at the barbershop, where two were shot on killed on the scene.
Six men were admitted to hospital, and upon arrival, a third male succumbed to death due to the extent of his injuries.
According to police, there is reason to believe that the incident has been sparked by revenge. But, as investigations continue, the modus operandi will be determined in a bid to get to the bottom of the multiple murders and attempted murders.
“An appeal is made to the public to share information with SAPS that can assist with the investigation by contacting Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or by using the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.”
Commenting on the mass shooting incident, the Western Cape Provincial Community Police Board (WCPCPB) says it is deeply disturbed by the tragic incident.
“Our thoughts are with the affected families and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The WCPCPB that while initial indications suggest that extortion may be a motive, they await the outcome of the police’s investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this heinous crime.
“The Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit is currently working tirelessly to investigate the incident, and we are hopeful for a breakthrough in the near future.”
The board has appealed to the community to come forward with any information that can aid the investigation. Adding that resident’s assistance is crucial in bringing those responsible to justice and ensuring that our communities are safe from such senseless violence.
