After a three-year hiatus, the Sea Point promenade will soon be filled with your favourite furry friends on 17 March, for Paws on the Promenade. The fundraising event has returned for its sixth installment.

The event will start at 09:00 at the Mouille Point Lighthouse. From there animal lovers and their four-legged friends will make their way to the Sea Point Swimming, before circling back to the lighthouse.

For those looking forward to attending, tickets can be purchased on Quicket at http://www.qkt.io/pawsonprom2024, at R50 per person and per dog, and R25 for children under 12.

The event’s organiser, Marcelle du Plessis, says there will tons of prizes up for grabs and plenty to keep entertained.

“Raffle prizes, products sales, delicious coffee, food and crafts will entertain you on the day. The first 100 dogs to arrive will also receive a free goodie bag.

All pet owners are encouraged to dress up in a dog outfit or to wear something orange, the Mdzananda Animal Clinic brand.”

The cause

This year, Paws on the Promenade is raising funds for the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha, which provides assistance to more than 1500 animals a month. Du Plessis, says the clinic provides consultations, hospitalisation, general and orthopaedic surgeries, continuous sterilisations, mobile clinics, an animal ambulance and homeless pet shelter.

“They also set a priority on community empowerment and education to ensure people become responsible pet ownership into the future”, she added.
