One person has been killed and two were injured after e-hailing vehicles were attacked by unknown suspects at Maponya Mall in Johannesburg last night. The Police’s Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says e-hailing vehicles were also torched in the attack at the shopping centre in Soweto.

Colonel Nevhuhulwi says according to information, an e-hailing vehicle was seen stopping at the entrance when it was approached by four men. It’s alleged that shots were fired at the driver of the vehicle and then suspects then proceeded to set the vehicle alight.
Two vehicles torched
He says another vehicle, which was nearby was shot at and the driver managed to flee, however his vehicle was also torched. It was later established that the driver and passerby had sustained gun shot wounds and were taken to hospital.
Could be taxi-violence related
At this stage, the Police are investigating cases of murder, two for attempted murder as well as for arson. The investigation continues. No-one has been arrested yet. Colonel Nevhuhulwi says the SAPS and JMPD will be on the scene to monitor the situation which is suspected to be taxi-violence related.
