One hit wonders and their dance crazes

This weekend on Smile FM we’re honouring those who made it… only once…Bobby put together a list of his favourite one hit wonders that started a dance craze.

In case you need a visual representation of these dances:

Las Ketchup – Ketshup Song

Might be corny, but everybody did it. Move the hands over one another, and end with the wobbling legs and the limp-wristed back hand to the forehead.

Mr C The Slide Man – Cha Cha Slide

Moves seem simple, but it’s so much fun watching the uncles mix up their right and left feet, the number of jumps and showing us how low they can go, but still unable to bring it to the top again.

Saliento – Watch Me

So many moves to learn. The duff, the stanky leg, the superman. But no matter how many times you watch Saliento – doing the whip was simple – just throw those fists forward with purpose – it’s the nae nae that threw some people’s hips out.

Psy – Gangnam Style

We played right into the whole video. You couldn’t just jockey ride though, you also had to have the wrist movements, with a touch of fabulous of course.

Los del Rio – Macarena

The original dancefloor-filler that got uncles, oumas and neighbours all trying to relive their youth. It didn’t help that the senior citizen band themselves were a little stiff in the video with their grandpa shuffle. It’s the hip-sway and the jump at the end that usually finished everyone off.
