On-duty police officer shot and wounded in Gugulethu

Gugulethu police officers came under attack this morning and a police officer was shot and wounded in the line of duty. Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said a group of officials attached to the Gugulethu SAPS responded to a murder complaint, when gunmen opened fire.

 

“The members came under fire and one of their own sustained gunshot injuries. The police members took action. The adult male was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The victim, a sergeant based at Gugulethu SAPS was transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment,” said Twigg.

 

 

The suspects subsequently fled the scene. Gugulethu police are probing cases of murder, attempted murder and attack on police.
