On a national front, the DA has won, outright, the municipality of uMngeni in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, taking 13 of the council’s 25 seats.

This is the first municipality, the DA has ever won in KZN. While the ANC is keeping control of most of the Eastern Cape, the DA managed to retain its majority in the Kouga municipality. The race is still on for control of the Nelson Mandela Bay metro, where neither the DA nor ANC is likely to reach a majority.
