The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) says it has now concluded its investigation into the brutal killing of Raygun the baboon and has laid charges with the police against the alleged perpetrators.

The NSPCA says its investigation faced numerous challenges, including obstruction, threats to individuals involved, and evidence tampering.
The community of Delmas was also reluctant to come forward with information or additional evidence. Despite this, the NSPCA has gathered sufficient evidence, including a pathology report which confirmed that Raygun sustained injuries before his death.
The docket was officially handed over to the police in Delmas earlier this month, who will now appoint an Investigating Officer to gather statements from the accused and proceed with the necessary legal processes.
Chief Inspector Douglas Wolhuter, Manager of the NSPCA’s Wildlife Protection Unit says they will however continue to follow up on this case to ensure that due process is followed.
“This was not an easy case. It was met with resistance at every turn. Despite the many obstacles, the NSPCA remained the driving force behind this investigation, ensuring that the case was pursued.”
Wolhuter has thanked the public for their support.
“We understand the frustration and anger of those who seek justice for Raygun, and we share it. We have done everything in our power to ensure this case moves forward. Now, the justice system must do its part, and we will continue to pursue this case through to its rightful conclusion.”
