The wheels of justice are finally turning for Nigerian rapper 3GAR, who crashed his luxury supercar into a wall in Sea Point in March this year, after the NPA confirmed he will be prosecuted.
The musician, whose real name is Daniel Obioma, miraculously survived the dramatic high-speed crash after losing control of his multi-million rand McLaren 570S.
The crash occurred on High Level Road on Saturday, 1 March, when the 29-year-old was reportedly driving at over 200 km/h before slamming into a pavement and wall.
Shocking footage of the crash, showing the crumpled remains of the luxury supercar, quickly went viral on social media, amassing millions of views.
3GAR and a passenger were admitted to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

After police initially opened a case of reckless and negligent driving, it has taken months for the matter to finally progress to where the NPA could take it forward.
On Monday, 4 August, five months after the crash, the NPA confirmed that they have decided to prosecute.
NCOP Member Nicholas Gotsell was one of the prominent people piling on the pressure on the police to finalise their investigation, publishing regular updates to his followers on his social media pages.
He says that whether you are an ordinary motorist or a so-called celebrity, nobody is above the law.
“Reckless drivers have no place tearing through our neighbourhoods and endangering lives; no matter where you live or what you drive. The joyride is now finally headed to the courtroom.”
The NPA says once 3GAR is served with a summons, he will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court.
As of Tuesday afternoon, he had not yet been served, and it’s unclear whether Obioma is currently in South Africa.
