Newly-appointed Health Minister Joe Phaahla says the third wave of the coronavirus pandemis is still upon South Africa.

There were over 13 000 new Covid-19 cases reported, in the last 24 hours. Addressing the media this morning, he says the Western Cape has overtaken Gauteng as the epicentre of the third wave. On the vaccine front, he says South Africa has reached the milestone of 8 million vaccines administered, yesterday. Vaccine supplies have stabilised, and there are over 10 million vaccines in storage. This will increase to 20 million by the end of August.
