New Political Party Funding Act a win for democracy

South African voters can now look forward to more transparent and democratic elections in the country.

This, according to the civil-rights lobby-group, My Vote Counts which welcomed the enactment of the new, Political Party Funding Act, which came into effect on the 1st of April.

Communications Officer at My Vote Counts, Sheilan Clarke says, under the Act, all political parties will now be required to disclose donations of more than R100 000 to the Independent Electoral Commission.

She says the enactment of the new law would reduce corruption in the political-sphere.
