Nearly half a million young people have registered for the upcoming local government elections.

The voters roll closed at midnight last night, as people could still register online until then. In total 1.7 million potential voters registered this weekend ahead of the 1 November poll. Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo says it’s notable that young people stepped up and registered to vote.
