National Blood Donor Month is here, and your help is being sought to donate blood, which can save lives. The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS) says the theme for the month is “Be Remarkable”. The organisation’s Public Relations Manager, Marike Carli, says a major blood donation drive will be held next weekend, ahead of World Blood Donor Day, on Sunday, 14 June.
“Each donation represents kindness, courage and community spirit”, says Marike Carli, Public Relations Manager at WCBS.

Carli says that on Saturday, 13 June 2026, their staff will aim to collect 1000 units of blood. Several blood donation clinics will be hosted across the province. Carli added, this comes at a critical time, when winter months traditionally see a dip in donations. At this moment, blood stock levels of O-negative blood are at a two-day supply.
Carli added, “National Blood Donor Month is the perfect time to celebrate our blood donors, who show us that we can all be remarkable”.

She added that the day will also focus on encouraging new donors to sign up for this noble cause. Winter is historically a challenging period for blood stocks, and she says, a larger, more sustainable donor base is needed to help ensure a stable blood supply for patients in need.

“The theme ‘Be Remarkable’ is a tribute to ordinary people doing remarkable things by saving lives through blood donation.”

The WCBS has also launched a WhatsApp Channel this month. Carli says the channel will serve as a direct communication platform, enabling the blood service to share information with donors.
She added, “This Channel is for everyone who wants to make a difference.”
