The South African Local Government Association says salary-negotiations for municipal-workers have now concluded with municipal workers to receive a 3.5% salary increase.

SALGA, which represents 257 municipalities across the country, says the changes will be effective from 1 July 2021.

Workers will also receive a once-off R3,000 or R4,000 cash allowance.

Employees earning a basic salary of R12,500 or less, as at 1 July 2021, will receive an amount of R4,000.

Employees earning more than this, will receive a once-off R3,000.

The new agreement also imposes a zero percent increase in some benefits, such as home owner’s allowance and medical aid.
