More weapons and drugs confiscated, SA quarterly crime stats

Between April and June this year – more than 6 400 people were murdered in South Africa. This equates to almost 70 people murdered every day during that period. In April and June, 855 women and 77 children were murdered in the country. But Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis says where LEAP officers were deployed, stats show that there was a crime reduction.

The mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith says LEAP members also confiscated more weapons and drugs this year.

The country’s 3-monthly crime statistics also show, that more than 660 people were murdered in the mentioned period when compared to last year. Closer to home, there were 161 gang-related murders in the Western Cape. But like the mayor, Premier Alan Winde had added that the Provincial Safety Plan is showing positive results.
