Montagu Police detectives are investigating a case of murder following the tragic death of 32-year-old Shimoné Fluks over the weekend. The victim, a mother-of-one, was allegedly stabbed by her boyfriend after a quarrel early on Saturday morning.
According to Western Cape police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi, the incident occurred on 14 December 2024 in the Bergsig area. Police were called to Fluks Street at approximately 5:30 AM, where they found the body of a woman who had sustained a stab wound to her neck. Emergency medical personnel declared her deceased at the scene.
“The suspect fled the scene, and police members launched a manhunt in a bid apprehend the man. The motive for the attack is believed to be an argument,” added Swartbooi.
It is reported that after being attacked, Fluks ran to a neighbour’s house for help, where she collapsed.
The suspected killer, identified as a 32-year-old man, was arrested on Sunday. He appeared in Montagu Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody and is expected to return to court for a bail hearing on Tuesday, 24 December 2024.
Sources claim that Fluks was in an abusive relationship with the suspect, and that he had stabbed her during a previous altercation.
Authorities have urged witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to contact Montagu SAPS or Crimestop at 08600 10111.
