The Miami Open, a Masters 1000 event, is currently in full swing, with only the top 16 men’s and eight women’s players remaining in the draw.
Sensational Spaniard – Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz, the first seed in the men’s draw, is the clear favourite to go all the way. The Spaniard has been on a rampage, not dropping a single set in Miami so far. However, his Round-of-16 match against the 16th-seeded American, Tommy Paul, could be a challenge.
Paul has a 1-0 head-to-head lead over Alcaraz, having beaten him at the Canada Masters 1000 event in a thrilling match that went 6-7, 7-6, and 6-3. Alcaraz is aware of the threat that Paul poses.
“Great match ahead,” Alcaraz said in an interview with Daniel Perisse of the Miami Open website.
“I lost the first and only match that I played against Tommy. I know that he’s a really talented and really tough player, so I have to play at my best. Let’s see what’s going to happen.”
Despite Alcaraz’s dominance, Stefanos Tsitsipas is another player to watch out for. The Greek player is eager to take advantage of Novak Djokovic’s absence from the tournament due to his vaccination status. This has given younger players like Tsitsipas a chance to shine and claim the title.
Women’s Singles to reach a thrilling conclusion
Among the ladies, the Masters title will go down to the wire. If both 3rd seed Jessica Pegula and 2nd seed Aryna Sabalenka can keep their current form, we’re in for one cracking final – should both go all the way.
