Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula says the PRASA Security Plan will help reduce the prevalence of crime and vandalism along the country’s rail network.

He launched the Security Plan in Gauteng yesterday, which will see increased law-enforcement along the network, to monitor and protect rail-infrastructure.

Mbalula says the Plan will be a collaborative effort between different Government entities, such as the SAPS, the Hawks, the National Prosecuting Authority and Metro Police.

He says an estimated R4-billion has been lost over the past three years to cable-theft and damage to PRASA infrastructure.
