Published on

Strand police are searching for three suspects involved in an armed robbery at a fast food chain restaurant on Gordons Bay Road, Strand, over the weekend. According to reports, an unknown male held a McDonald’s worker at gunpoint while two others demanded the cash registers to be opened.

According to police captain FC Van Wyk, the complainant was reportedly busy helping the fast food deliverers at about 18:45 when she saw one of her co-workers running to the back and a suspect following her, then some of the other workers running outside.

Van Wyk says three suspects were involved in this incident and took an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene in an unknown direction. No arrest as yet, investigations into the matter continue.

“Anyone with any information about this incident is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop 08600 10111 or use the mobile application MySAPS anonymously.”

This follows a similar incident in the area last week, when 10 armed suspects stormed into a shopping centre and fled with an undisclosed amount of money. 1 suspect, a 28-year-old, was arrested for the crime, and 9 others are still being sought.

According to the Strand Community Policing Forum, Niklaas Thysen, shopping centres in the Helderberg region is believed to have become a target for local criminals.
