Dozens of social media user have taken to their respective online platforms to share heartfelt tributes in honour of the late Major General André Lincoln.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Thembisile Patekile also paid his respects to the man who served as the former Head of the province’s Anti-Gang Unit, as well as one of the father of our nation, Nelson Mandela’s top bodyguards.

He passed away on Friday morning.
According to Patekile, Lincoln played a key role in policing within the province and beyond. In a statement issued by the Western Cape SAPS Media Centre, the following message was shared:

When the Western Cape and Eastern Cape provinces were battling incidents of gang violence he played a pivotal role in developing an effective policing approach. That culminated in the establishment of the Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit that was launched by the President of the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency, Mr Cyril Ramaphosa in 2018 in Hanover Park.

He held various leadership positions within the Western Cape thereby interfacing with a number of leadership structures, leaders and community activists.

He will be sorely missed as the country battles high incidence of serious violent crime. He was a committed law enforcement officer with a quiet demeanour and unequivocal conviction to creating safer communities.

The late Major General Lincoln retired in 2022.
