Police Minister Bheki Cele says police will continue to enforce the curfew under level 1 of the restrictions, which start at midnight until 04:00.

He says alcohol can be bought and consumed at licenced premises only, but not before 09:00 and not after midnight.

He’s confirmed alcohol can be bought at liquor outlets between 09:00 and 17:00, Monday to Friday.

He briefed the media yesterday afternoon on law enforcement during lockdown level 1. Alert level 1 came into effect yesterday, after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on 16 September that the country would be easing restrictions which government had put in place to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Cele says more than 310000 people have been arrested, since the end of March, for flouting lockdown regulations.

He says these violations are for liquor, transport, business and cross-border-related violations…

Cele reiterated that alcohol may only be consumed on site, at licensed liquor-outlets such as restaurants and bars. He says alcohol may not be sold as take-aways, saying drinks must be consumed before patrons leave restaurants or bars…

He again urged South Africans to adhere to the 100-person limit, announced for funerals…

The Minister says Municipal noise by-laws, will stay in effect and will be strictly enforced, under level 1 of lockdown…
