There’s an exciting and tasty new winter menu to experience in Newlands. It encapsulates Nose-to-Tail Cooking and Zulu-inspired flair abounds. The Newlands Café at the Southern Sun Hotel has recently introduced its Winter Menu.
Exciting Winter Menu
The creative force behind the menu is Executive Chef Sihle Dlamini. His journey started many years ago, in his grandmother’s kitchen in Ulundi, Kwazulu-Natal.
He has, since then, worked in prestigious hotel restaurants across the country. His inspiration comes from local heritage cuisine.
“I’m a farm boy like I said so if you put a cow in front of me, a whole carcass, I can break it apart, with just a knife (and my hands). This is a true definition (for me) of going back home,” says Chef Sihle.
He’s a firm believer in making the most of fresh produce.
At the same time, his commitment to nose-to-tail cooking will ensure that each dish is infused with authenticity.
“I’m all about stories,” he said.
The Chef told SMILE FM that his food takes people on a journey that will leave a story with every palette that indulges in the experience.
Nose-to-Tail Cooking and Zulu-Inspired Flair
The Cafe’s Executive Chef has an innovative approach to dining, with his flair bringing a fresh perspective to the dining experience.
The Chef added, “I have a beautiful sense of humour and that’s what you will see on every plate.”
He has also been described as a maestro of flavours, textures and presentations. His dedication to the flavours of the land comes through strongly in every dish.
Here are some dishes being offered:
“Spicy Chicken Wings: Perfectly grilled in a rich tomato sauce with a touch of chilli and toasted sesame seeds.
“Beef and Bone Marrow Soup: A comforting bowl of warmth, combining robust flavours and tender beef.
“Slow-Braised Pork Belly: Served with samp & beans, this dish promises to take the edge off the Winter chill.
He again stated that some dishes “literally take him home.”
Celebrating South Africa’s culinary diversity
All the dishes prepared were very extremely rich in flavour and tasty. My personal favourites were the chicken livers and the bone marrow soup.
The Southern Sun Newlands Café is nestled in the heart of Cape Town’s Southern Suburbs.
