The Hawks in KwaZulu-Natal have uncovered a major dagga cultivation operation in Camperdown, seizing plants, dagga and equipment to the value of R30 million.

Hawks members from Port Shepstone Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Counter Narcotics and Durban Metro Police Drug Team also arrested a 56-year-old man.

They acted on information about a farm that was cultivating cannabis in Camperdown. A disruptive operation was conducted on Thursday, 11 September, and police swooped on the said farm.

Members seized more than 4,000 plants, 70 buckets of processed cannabis, and cultivation equipment.

Six firearms and over 160 rounds of ammunition were also confiscated.

The suspect will face charges including cultivation and dealing in cannabis, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, when he appears in the Camperdown Magistrates’ Court.

The seized firearms will also be sent for ballistic testing to determine if they were used in the commission of any crime in the country.

The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation Provincial Head, Major General Lesetja Senona, has welcomed the arrest and applauded the members for the “good work.”
