Bayern Munich has sacked Julian Nagelsmann – and the poor guy had to find out through the media.

The Italian journalist, Fabrizio Romano, who specializes in football transfers, broke the news on Twitter. In the Tweet, dropped late on Thursday night, Romano also said that Thomas Tuchel is the front runner in taking over the job as Manager of the Bundesliga giants.

Thomas Tuchel, the new boss

It has meanwhile been confirmed that Tuchel will indeed join Bayern Munich – though details around his signing is still under wraps.

A decent run for Nagelsmann

the 35-year-old manager made the move from RB Leipzig to the Bavarian Capital on a record transfer fee just two seasons ago to replace the outgoing manager, Hansi Flick.

The deal was worth €25 Million and was supposed to keep Nagelsmann in Munich for five years.

Nagalsmann led Bayern to two consecutive Bundesliga titles, and in the current season, they sit in second place on the table – one point off the pace of Borussia Dortmund.

Despite the fact that Bayern couldn’t defend their UEFA Champions League crown in the Nagelmanns’ first year in charge, and came up short in the 2021/22 season, they have consistently made it to the quarterfinals of the prestigious European tournament.

They have a bout over two legs against Manchester City in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League in April. The same team who knocked them out at the same stage in 2020/21.

Why did Bayern sack Nagelsmann?

The answer to this question is still up and the air. It even caught Julian Nagelsmann off guard, who reportedly found out through the media.

This announcement comes at a bizarre time. Bayern still has a shot at winning thier 11th consecutive Bundesliga title. They are also just a few weeks away from a incredibly important UEFA Champions League match.

Bayern’s next match will see them host Borussia Dortmund in a “Der Klassiker” encounter on 1 April.
