Forestry and Environment Minister, Barbara Creecy says her Department has now instituted an investigation into the Kleinmond fires.
The fire, which broke out over the weekend, has destroyed more than 5,400 hectares of vegetation.
Creecy says initial investigations show the fire started in the Department’s Pine Plantation in the Kleinmond area.
Creecy also thanked firefighters who helped douse the flames.
