ICYMI: Phillip Kgosana Drive closures for Speed Classic Cape Town

The much-anticipated Speed Classic Cape Town takes place this weekend, bringing high-octane hillclimb action to Philip Kgosana Drive.

With excitement building in the Mother City, spectators and residents are urged to take note of road closures, traffic plans, and parking arrangements ahead of the event.

The event will be hosted on a closed-off Philip Kgosana Drive (inbound and outbound) on Saturday, 25 October and Sunday, 26 October.

The action kicks off on Saturday with the Classic Car Race, celebrating timeless engineering, before the supercars and modern speed machines take to the track on Sunday for the King of the Mountain showdown on the 1.8km course.

Speed Classic Road Closures

Philip Kgosana Drive was closed to outbound traffic from Sunday, 19 October, between 19h00 and 05h00, and reopened briefly on Wednesday, 22 October.

From 05h00 on Thursday, 23 October until 05h00 on Monday, 27 October, Philip Kgosana Drive, as well as Christiaan Street and Service Road, will be closed to both inbound and outbound traffic.

To reduce disruption for commuters, Philip Kgosana Drive (inbound) will reopen to traffic at 05h00 on Monday, 27 October.

For post-event breakdowns, Philip Kgosana Drive (outbound) will remain closed on Monday, 27 October, and again between 19h00 and 05h00 from Tuesday, 28 October to Thursday, 30 October.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use the following alternative routes:

N1 (incoming and outgoing)
N2 outgoing, via the City Centre and Nelson Mandela Boulevard (including Strand Street & Hertzog Boulevard connections)
N2 incoming, diverting onto Nelson Mandela Boulevard, with Strand Street and Hertzog Boulevard exits

Vehicle Access Permits will be issued to affected residents requiring access to roads around Philip Kgosana Drive.

Free parking and shuttle services will be available from designated areas:

General Access Ticket Holders: Civic Centre and Good Hope Seminary Junior School
Grandstand & Hospitality Ticket Holders: Good Hope Seminary Junior School
Guests with Disabilities/Special Needs: CPUT Lecturers’ Parking (off Constitution Street), with shuttles to the event entrance

E-hailing drop-off points:

General Access & Grandstand: Gardens Centre (short walk to Jutland Avenue pedestrian entrance)
Hospitality Guests: 25 Jutland Avenue, Devil’s Peak Estate
