Namibian Primary school teacher Gelda Waterboer has gained international recognition for a short educational video, during which she teaches her learners the importance of body privacy and to immediately confide in a trusted adult if they are ever touched inappropriately.

The “private parts” song by Waterboer, a Grade 1 teacher at Rogate Primary School in Otjiwarongo, has gone viral around the world, with news outlets from the USA to Australia, and even Russia, reposting her video, garnering more than 100 million views on TikTok in the first week.

Commentators have heaped praise on Waterboer, saying teaching kids not to be shy about body privacy is crucial.

“This is actually the level of seriousness needed for this,” another person commented.

“I don’t think alot of people understand the amount of weight the video carries! Child molesters are everywhere. You may be living with 1 in your house. Well done Ms. As Parents and Guardians of young and innocent kids, protect your kids, add petrol to this. Let it burn, keep educating them.”

The Namibian Education Minister, Sanet Steenkamp, also commended Waterboer.
