Bangladesh, ranked at number 8th in the world, also known as The Tigers, won the 1997 ICC Trophy in Malaysia which qualified them for the 1999 Cricket World Cup for the first time.
The Tigers will be looking to improve on their 2015 quarter-final finish after some encouraging performances in the United Kingdom.
The 15-man squad, seen by many as the underdogs in this tournament, will be led by captain Mashrafe Mortaza who led Bangladesh’s fightback in the field with the bat as the Tigers enjoyed an ultimately convincing eight-wicket win over the West Indies last month.
Another player to watch out for is Abu Javed, who has the ability to swing the ball as he pleases. This skill was displayed during the Tests in New Zealand, and should conditions in England prove favourable he could be a thorn in the side of many teams.
In 2018, Bangladesh won 13 of their 20 ODI matches, behind only England and India in terms of the number of wins. Which is one reason why they should not be taken lightly at this year’s tournament.
