The City of Cape Town’s Metro Police and Law Enforcement officers have made several arrests following tip-offs across the City.

The City says two suspects were arrested in Endlovini, Khayelitsha on Wednesday after a hijacked truck carrying alcohol worth more than R1.6 million was recovered. Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, says the vehicle was hijacked earlier that morning in Grabouw by 10 suspects.

“The suspects were busy offloading the alcohol when officers arrived, but most fled on spotting the officers. Two suspects, aged 40 and 36, were apprehended during a foot chase and arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle, possession of stolen property, and resisting arrest.”

The recovered alcohol

Smith says the recovered vehicle is a brand new 14-ton Isuzu truck, and the alcohol was being transported from Cape Town to Hermanus.

Smith added that arrests were also made in Bonteheuwel on Thursday, where a suspect was found in possession of an imitation firearm.

“Neighbourhood safety officers in Bonteheuwel responded to a tip-off about a youngster planning to rob learners outside a primary school. Officers spotted a group of young people loitering near the school, and one suspect attempted to flee. He was caught with an imitation firearm in his possession, arrested, and taken to Bishop Lavis SAPS.”

In an unrelated incident, five men were arrested later the same day in Gugulethu for robbing residents at gunpoint.

“The vehicle and a modified firearm were confiscated, and the suspects were taken to Gugulethu SAPS for further investigation, Smith added.”

Smith further stressed the importance of tip-offs, stating that they contribute to reducing and even prevent crimes from taking place.

”I want to commend the officers who followed up on the information and those residents who called it in. Thank you for not turning a blind eye and joining us in the fight against crime. Your input is valued in keeping our areas safe and rooting out criminals.”

“Valentine’s Day is about love, and what better way to express it than by helping animals who have endured so much?” says Fiona Miles, Director of FOUR PAWS South Africa. “Every symbolic adoption supports food, medical care and sanctuary for these incredible creatures. It’s a gift that lasts far beyond the day.”

Ethical options on Valentine’s Day

Instead of fleeting gifts, FOUR PAWS offers ethical options that South Africans can feel proud of:

  • Symbolic Big Cat Adoption – Receive a personalised certificate and updates about your chosen big cat at LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary in the Free State.
  • Donation in someone’s name – Make a heartfelt contribution to rescue and care projects across South Africa.
  • FOUR PAWS merchandise – Eco-friendly items that support animal welfare initiatives.

What are symbolic adoptions?

Why symbolic adoption matters:

  • Many big cats rescued by FOUR PAWS come from zoos, circuses or private ownership.
  • Your support funds their lifelong care at sanctuaries like LIONSROCK, where they can roam safely and live with dignity.
  • It’s a gift that reflects true South African values, compassion, ubuntu and sustainability.

Skip the usual chocolates and flowers, choose an ethical gift that gives rescued lions a second chance at life

She had to go on a high speed chase during her driver’s license exam

Getting your driver’s license is one of the biggest achievements of your adult life. It takes hours of practice and learning to know exactly what to expect during your exam. Unless you are one of our callers who had to get involved in a high speed chase during her test.

The world record for license attempts

If you feel bad for the amount of attempts you had in trying to get your license, don’t worry, at least you don’t have the world record.

That title belongs to 69 year old Cha Sa-Soon who spent over R220 000 in fees and lessons to finally get her driver’s license on the 960th attempt! We’re glad she can finally drive legally now.

Trump threatens to sue Trevor Noah over Grammys comment

US President Donald Trump has lashed out at the Grammys and host Trevor Noah, after the South African joked about Trump allegedly spending time on Epstein Island.

Noah, who hosted the Grammys for the fifth year in a row on Sunday, mocked Trump’s one-time friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, following Billie Eilish’s win for song of the year.

He commented:

“There you have it, song of the year! Congratulations, Billie Eilish. Wow. That’s a Grammy that every artist wants — almost as much as Trump wants Greenland. Which makes sense because, since Epstein’s gone, he needs a new island to hang out with Bill Clinton. I told you, it’s my last year! What are you going to do about it?…”

In response, Trump sent out a furious post on Truth Social, slamming both Noah and the Grammys.

He called the Grammy Awards the worst show and practically unwatchable.

Trump went on to deny that he ever spent time on Epstein Island.

“Noah said, INCORRECTLY, about me, that Donald Trump and Bill Clinton spent time on Epstein Island. WRONG!!! I can’t speak for Bill, but I have never been to Epstein Island, nor anywhere close, and until tonight’s false and defamatory statement, have never been accused of being there, not even by the Fake News Media.”

He also took a swipe at Noah, calling him a “total loser” who “better get his facts straight”.

“It looks like I’ll be sending my lawyers to sue this poor, pathetic, talentless, dope of an M.C., and suing him for plenty$. Ask Little George Slopadopolus, and others, how that all worked out. Also ask CBS! Get ready Noah, I’m going to have some fun with you! President DJT”

On Friday, the US Justice Department released more than 3 million pages of files related to the investigation into sex offender Epstein.

The files make mention of numerous powerful figures, including Trump, Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Bill Clinton and former Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

The Department has emphasised that this production of files may include fake or falsely submitted images, documents or videos, as everything that was sent to the FBI by the public was included in the production that is responsive to the Epstein Files Transparency, which was signed into law by President Trump on November 19, 2025.

“Some of the documents contain untrue and sensationalist claims against President Trump that were submitted to the FBI right before the 2020 election. To be clear, the claims are unfounded and false, and if they have a shred of credibility, they certainly would have been weaponised against President Trump already.”

Former president Jacob Zuma has been mentioned in the latest documents relating to the late convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

The records, commonly referred to as the Epstein files, span more than three million pages and were released by the United States Department of Justice on Friday, 23 January.

In it, are emails detailing a dinner allegedly organised by Epstein for Zuma during a visit to London in March 2010.

According to the documents, the dinner took place at the Ritz Hotel and included a Russian model.

The reason for and nature of the meeting is not known.

One email, dated Thursday, 4 March 2010, outlines arrangements for the event. It reads: “I am a friend of Jeffrey Epstein and I have been asked to help arrange a small dinner tomorrow night for President Jacob Zuma of South Africa at the Ritz Hotel at 7:00pm tomorrow evening.”

The email adds that Epstein had suggested inviting a woman to “add some real glamour to the occasion”.

Further correspondence, sent to Epstein on Saturday, 6 March 2010, reflects positively on Zuma’s presence at the dinner.

It states: “We all found Jacob Zuma a much more impressive character than we had expected, he displayed more gravitas and none of the macho bluster he is generally portrayed as having by the tabloid press.”

Another email from the same day references a possible follow-up engagement, reading: “I am also summoned to see Presdt Zuma tomorrow for private meeting. Do we like South Africa ???”

Spokesperson for the Jacob Zuma Foundation and MK Party MP Mzwanele Manyi told News24 that “nothing was untoward about the dinner”.

The broader Epstein files also reference his business interests in South Africa, including the scouting of models, particularly in Cape Town.
