Home Affairs will beef up its biometric systems to cut down on the number of illegally issued IDs

Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says his Department will beef up its biometric systems to cut down on the number of identity documents (IDs) that are illegally issued to foreign nationals.

The Minister spoke says this upgrade forms part of also tackling the high incidences of corruption.

Motsoaledi says the Home Affairs National Information System, or HANIS, currently in use around the country, can, unfortunately, be abused or manipulated by corrupt officials.
