A hiker has been rescued on Lion’s Head. According to Wilderness Search And Rescue, their dedicated teams of volunteers and professionals responded to the incident on Saturday after a visiting foreign hiker fell while descending from the summit.
Hiker rescued on Lion’s Head
According to the WSAR spokesperson, David Nel, the 25-year-old American hiker and her friends were making their way down the popular trail towards the ladders when she suddenly slipped and fell.

He said she was injured and unable to continue. An urgent call was placed to their emergency number, 021 937 0300.
Visiting hiker rescued from Lion’s Head
Nel added that nearby rescuer teams were immediately dispatched. Numerous rescuers swiftly made their way up the trail to locate the hiker.
Nel says an Air Mercy Service (AMS) rescue helicopter and a small team from the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS were deployed to the scene. They were hoisted down to Lion’s Head, to a point near the injured hiker.

He says the injured hiker was treated by a Western Cape Government Health and Wellness paramedic. She was then assisted a short way along the trail to a point where the helicopter could hoist her from the mountain. Nel says she was flown to a nearby landing zonewhere an ambulance picked her up. She was then driven to the hospital for treatment.
