Dr Mkhize says the department is closely monitoring the situation in India and will be keeping a close eye on any travellers from there, to avoid a resurgence of covid-19 cases in the country. This amid fears that the B.1.617-variant, which is dominant in India, could reach South African shores. India has over the past 7 days recorded more than 300 000 new infections and more than 3 000 covid-19 fatalities on a daily basis.
