The Provincial Health Department says a temporary facility opened to treat Covid-19-patients in Khayelitsha, will soon close its doors and move to another province to extend support there, in the fight against the corona virus.

Work at the 60-bed Khayelithsa Thusong Centre, which was sponsored by Doctors Without Borders (MSF), is winding down, with the field hospital admitting its last patients today, 7 August.

Deputy Director of Communications at the department, Mark van der Heever says over the past few weeks, the province has seen a flattening in infections while increases are seen elsewhere in the country.

Patients who are still in the facility by the 11th of this month, will be transferred to Brackengate or Khayelitsha Hospital.
