Give a Homeless Pet Their First Christmas

Published on

The team at Mdzananda Animal Clinic in Khayelitsha is spreading some festive cheer with their new #MyFirstChristmas campaign, inviting the public to share a little Christmas kindness with homeless dogs and cats.

In the weeks leading up to the festive season, the non-profit clinic and shelter has noticed a significant increase in animals being surrendered or abandoned.

With many pets facing Christmas alone, the clinic is working to bring them extra warmth, care, and holiday cheer.  The campaign encourages people to meet pets up for adoption or to sponsor them for the festive season, giving them a little extra love and care.

The NPO’s Marcelle du Plessis says many of the animals have never had a real Christmas.

“While Christmas is typically a happy, family-filled day, it’s always bittersweet knowing our shelter pets are spending it without one. This year, we want to make the day a little brighter for them. By sponsoring a shelter pet, members of the public can help give them a Christmas experience, and our team and volunteers will make sure each animal feels special.”

Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Shelter is a registered nonprofit that cares for around 1,500 animals each month. The clinic offers consultations, hospitalisation, surgeries, sterilisations, mobile clinics, and even an animal ambulance.
