South African athlete extraordinaire Gerda Steyn has done it again, dominating the 2025 TotalSports Two Oceans Marathon on Saturday 5 April, to achieve a record sixth consecutive win.

Our ultra-marathon queen made it look easy as she sailed to the finish line of the 56km race in 3:29:11.

Although it wasn’t quick enough to better her record time of 3:26:54, Steyn was very happy with her performance, admitting that she flipped the script by starting her race fast.

She wrote on Instagram shortly after the race:

So much appreciation and joy from yesterday’s race!! I set out with a plan and am so grateful for the results!!
My plan was to run a fast first half with the aim of opening up a gap early on. It was risky, because if you ask anyone for advice on how to run @totalsportstwooceansmarathon , they would say that you need to conserve your energy to run a strong second half… So I decided to flip the script.
It was a fantastic feeling crossing the finish line in 1st place for the 6th consecutive time and I really feel like I was being carried to the line by all the incredible support. This race means the world to me, and I couldn’t have done it on my own!!
A huge thank you to my @adidasza seconding team, club @hollywood_athletics , hubby, family, friends, supporters, the list goes on and on!!
Sport + South Africa = MAGIC
Yesterday wasn’t me, it was all of us!!

Coming in second place in the women’s ultra was Shelmith Muriuki with a time of 03:37:50, while Neheng Khatala took third (03:40:38).

Over in the men’s elite category, Khoarahlane Seutloali won gold (03:10:46), Siboniso Sikhakhane came in second (03:11:17) and Lucky Mohale in third (03:11:26).
