Gang-related double murder in Ottery

A man and woman have been shot and killed in a part of Ottery on Thursday night in what police believe to be a gang-related hit.

The victims, a 44-year-old man and his 39-year-old female passenger, were shot and killed while travelling along New Strandfontein Road in Ottery shortly before 21:40. Locals report that the incident occurred near a wholesale retailer.

Western Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, confirmed that Philippi SAPS are investigating the matter.

He said both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.

“Philippi SAPS members were dispatched to the scene where they discovered that the deceased have succumbed to gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.”

A case of double murder has been registered. Police say the motive is suspected to be linked to gang activity in the area.

“The circumstances surrounding the incident form part of an ongoing investigation. The motive is believed to be gang-related,” said Pojie.

No arrests have been made, and the suspects are yet to be identified.

Authorities are appealing to the public for assistance.

“We appeal to anyone with information to please contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or via the MySAPS mobile application, anonymously,” Pojie added.
