In celebration of October as Mobility Month, the Western Cape Government is offering free vehicle inspections at selected testing centres to help ensure vehicles are safe to drive.
According to Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku, the initiative focuses on scholar transport and public transport operators, with inspections carried out by qualified examiners.
The checks will cover essential vehicle safety components, including tyres, brake lights, suspension, and wipers — all of which play a crucial role in keeping passengers and other road users safe.
According to the department, the free inspections are not full roadworthy tests and will not include checks for fines or warrants. Instead, the assessments are designed to help drivers identify potential safety issues before they become serious hazards.
After the inspection, each motorist will receive a printed report highlighting any problems that require attention.
The inspections will be available at selected vehicle testing centres across the province from 14–16 October and again from 21–23 October 2025, between 08:00 and 15:00.
The Western Cape Government said the campaign forms part of its broader road safety efforts to reduce crashes and fatalities involving public transport vehicles.
“These checks give motorists peace of mind before setting off on their journeys. Too many drivers experience mechanical problems on highways and busy roads. This initiative helps reduce that risk,” added Sileku
