Launch of the Franschhoek International Film Festival

The Franschhoek International Film Festival hopes to secure interest from all over the world. The organizers are working towards establishing a prestigious event that will showcase the best of what South Africa and Africa have to offer.

The President of the Franschhoek International Film Festival, Rowan de Villiers says international roleplayers will have a platform to showcase their films. At the same there, there will also be opportunities for young people to learn more about the industry.

He added, “The film festival has been 3 years in the making.”

“It is a new festival that aims to create a collaborative, inclusive and prestigious film event for the African and International markets. It will bring new ideas and new experiences,” says de Villiers.

Categories for the Film Festival

The festival consists of an Official Film Festival Competition which will comprise three individual competitions. They are:

  1. Official Jury Competition
  2. Documentary Film Competition
  3. Short Film Competition

Franschhoek International Film Festival launched

De Villiers says, “FIFF will also host a wide range of competition screenings, panel discussions, workshops, master classes, public screening and the Franschhoek International Film Mart.”

Masterclasses on offer

Submissions for FIFF 2023 are open to all countries and filmmakers, from across the globe. The final deadline for submissions is 9 August 2023.

“With the picturesque background of the Drakenstein Mountain Range, the Franschhoek Valley provides the prestige and beauty a film festival needs,” says De Villiers.

The FIFF Jury and Official Selection for all three competitions will be held on 2 September this year.

 

The festival directors are:

  • Rowan de Villiers (President)
  • Success Lekabe (Media and Marketing) and
  • Lawrence Chetty (Finance).

‘The festival hopes to spur creativity, collaboration, opportunity and to further promote South African and African filmmakers as some of the best of the world,” says de Villiers.
