Western Cape Police have made a breakthrough by arresting four suspects in connection with a mass shooting in Mfuleni.

On Sunday, at around 13h30, police found the bodies of five men with gunshot wounds, inside a shack in the Madikizela informal settlement, in Mfuleni. The motive for the attack is still unclear.

On Tuesday morning, officers managed to trace and arrest four men aged between 29 and 35, after receiving a tip-off. They also seized a rifle and three pistols, in addition to several rounds of ammunition. The weapons will be sent for ballistic testing, to establish whether these are the murder weapons.

“The arrested suspects have been charged with murder, as well as the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition. They will appear in court soon,” said Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa

Criminals shot at least 16 people, in separate incidents across Cape Town, between Friday and Sunday, making it one of the Cape’s bloodiest weekends. Of the 16 victims, 12 of them died.
